After seven weeks taking the Organizational Behavior module, we came across many topics such as the history of organizational behavior research, learning and creativity, nature of work motivation etc. There is no doubt that the subject is very interesting, nonetheless, the chapter that reflective essay organizational behavior the most eye catching for me is the second chapter of the textbook, which is about individual differences comprising personality and ability.


From what I have learned, reflective essay organizational behavior, there are two main types of individual differences, which are personality and ability differences. Not only does this chapter catches my attention, it is also useful as it is crucial to understand the nature, determinants, and consequences of individual differences for managing organizational behavior when working in teams during assignments or during work in the future.


We need to understand why people act the way they do as each person differs so much from each other. No matter in the university or in the workplace, different people has different personality, where how they feel, think, and behave will differ from one another.


Before this, I thought every part of our personality is fated to be the way it is. By studying this topic, I now know that personality is determined both by nature and nurture.


This is true as I realized that some part of my personality is reflective essay organizational behavior to my parents', and some part of it is formed by the experiences I had when I was young. To understand one's personality is very important as it is said that individuals with similar personalities tend to be attracted to an organization and hired by it, and individuals with other types of personalities tend to leave the organization. These are based on the various traits they have, which can be used to predict their behavior in certain situations.


During one of the tutorials, we are told to complete a personality test to know which category we fall under. Even though we can already manage the behaviors in the organization better by understanding the big five model of personality, there are also other organizationally relevant traits we need to take note of. These are traits such as locus of control, self-monitoring, self-esteem, the three needs theory and more. This will also attribute to how people think and behave when they are given a task to work on.


For example, in the group projects assigned to us, there are some who will always want to be in charge of everything as they have a high need for power, whereas there are some who will always try their best in the reflective essay organizational behavior they do to meet their expectations, as they have a high need of achievement. As for myself, I think that I have a high need of achievement. I will always try to achieve the best out of everything I do, as well as take personal responsibility for outcomes that occur.


From the things I learned in this chapter, I can understand the reasons of people behaving the way they are, and think of ways to communicate with them to avoid misunderstandings, especially with group mates while working on group assignments as well as employees and subordinates when I am in the work place. Of course, when looking at individual differences and the way reflective essay organizational behavior affect the attitudes and behaviors of people, we must also look at the abilities, reflective essay organizational behavior, aptitudes, and skills they possess.


During work interviews, even when personality plays a huge part of the selection process, the candidate's ability is as important too, as it differentiates them from each other by the things they are capable of. Different jobs require different abilities. In my opinion, I think that I have high verbal, numerical, and deductive ability; therefore there are some jobs such as accountants and bankers that are more suitable for me than some other careers. Furthermore, by having high emotional intelligence allows me to manage and comprehend my own feelings as well as others' that may facilitate performance during work.


In short, not only is this chapter beneficial towards me, the other chapters of the module is also very advantageous towards my daily life. By understanding the behavior of others, not only can work be distributed and get done in an effective and efficient manner, there will also be less arguments and misunderstandings when dealing with various people with differing personalities.
